More Parents Are Starting to Go Nomadic

Andreas Wil Gerdes is a thought leader in the digital nomad movement and a key contributor to the telecommunications industry having parlayed the technology that powers remote work.

But that’s not what he wants to be known for, he prefers another title, father. His content across social media preaches a new ‘life-centric’ movement that allows parents to spend far more time with their children than the traditional educational system would like to see.

Andreas is one of many parents in the digital nomad community like Lona Alia, Lizz Quain, and Lily Bruns who are showing a new model for parenting while teleworking from every continent on earth and living a full life with their children.

This new era of parent, would much rather practice geo-Arbitrage in cities that have cleaner air for their kids, practice world-recognized Finnish education models, and combat the epidemic of ADHD by encouraging their kids to play in the open air and nature.

We think this is an exciting new way of life that a majority of the nomadic community doesn’t get to see every day so we’ll keep you updated.

LIFESTYLE

Melissa A Wiringi shares her love for her kids and what it means for her to raise them outside the traditional school system. Have a read.

I'd rather spend all that time with my lil people

Also, between Google and YouTube, you can learn anything and more than any school curriculum. Our only limitations are our beliefs. What we believe to be true is true for us.

If you don't believe you're cut out to be a stay-at-home parent, I'd challenge you to question your belief. Why do you think you're not good enough to raise your own children? Why do you believe you can't be home with the beautiful miracles you created? Why don't you believe you are empowered and skilled enough to help your child learn?

For too long systems and structures told us a lot of lies. That's been taught and become deeply ingrained into us. We are conditioned to believe we cannot and should not raise and educate our own. But what happened before there were schools? Now for those who say illiteracy and inequality... I would say we now live in different times.

The internet offers way more opportunities to learn than a classroom and a travel experience offer more real-life skill than any educational opportunity around. The price of a ticket is generally far lower than a private school, and I would suggest the level of learning and real-world education is far superior.

Who am I to suggest that? I'm just a mum who has 4 kids, traveling the world for three years with a high-anxiety daughter who just stepped on a plane by herself to travel internationally to the country she has dreamed to see for the past few years. I can honestly, hand on my heart, say there is no way a school could have provided the lessons and opportunities we gained through travel.

Touché Melissa.

How to Deal With Loneliness as a Nomad

Loneliness is a state, feeling or condition that creeps in on individuals as a result of depleting social contacts and relationships. Loneliness attacks people of all ages and from all walks of life, especially nomads. Many factors have been linked to loneliness so it’s difficult to isolate a specific cause.

In its prolonged or chronic form, loneliness may impact the emotional and physical well-being of the victim. In order to evade its catastrophic health penalties, here are three tips to fight loneliness.

  1. Be Aware - Before you even employ measures to curb loneliness, it is important to identify how you feel when loneliness creeps in. Have a mental check with yourself so it doesn’t become a constant issue.

  2. Join a sporting activity - Loneliness can be associated with boredom. Since you may have more freedom in time you could also end up not utilizing it well. Joining a sporting activity will allow you to pass time in a leisure manner while maintaining a healthy state of mind.

  3. Join digital nomad communities - Starting at work on the computer all day can cause burnout. Instead of staring into the black hole that is your screen, join an online community and engage in live sessions.
