A New Digital Nomad Visa Will Allow You to Live Rent-free on This Beautiful Italian Island

In a picturesque twist on the digital nomad dream, Ollolai, a quaint village in Sardinia, Italy, is beckoning remote workers with a unique offer. Rather than demanding fees, Ollolai has initiated the "Work from Ollolai" program, inviting experienced professionals to live rent-free, asking only a symbolic €1 in return. Indonesia’s First Digital Nomad Village Announced: Here’s Everything You Need To Know

The Mayor of Bitung, a city in north east Indonesia, has launched its first-ever digital nomad village, and it promises to be a haven for remote workers seeking a unique blend of nature, culture, and community. The Bitung local government, situated in the picturesque Sulawesi region of Indonesia, has chosen Lembeh Island, one of the 17,500 stunning islands in the archipelago, to be one of the idyllic locations for this groundbreaking initiative.

Bitung City is only 3 hours from Bali, a major digital nomad destination. Its close proximity to pristine beaches, lush natural parks, dense forestry teeming with unique wildlife, and awe-inspiring reefs for diving, has made it an attractive destination for digital nomads from around the world.

As part of the program, the city is offering a host of benefits to lure in remote workers seeking a change of pace and scenery. The coast of Bitung is bordered by an array of untouched beaches, nestled in the renowned "Lembeh Strait," accessible by a short boat ride.The basecamp of the program is Batu Putih village, located adjacent to Tangkoko Nature Reserve, a lush forest with rare animals. Additionally, the city boasts a major airport in Manado, just a 20-minute drive away, which significantly reduces travel time to this remote paradise.

Bitung City provides safe and comfortable accommodation options for digital nomads, ensuring a low-cost living situation with essential amenities such as WiFi, access to nature, as well as other island activities. The visionary mayor, Maurits Mantiri, hopes that the presence of digital nomads will have a positive impact on the local economy, inject new revenue streams and foster cultural exchange.

The mayor has even approved a series of workshops to encourage the transfer of digital knowledge from the visiting nomads to the local population. In a heartwarming move, digital nomads who wish to give back to the community and with the proper visa status will be allowed to volunteer their time and skills, making social contributions to Bitung during their stay.

The pilot program, which began on September 15th, 2023, will see the Bitung City government inviting 100+ digital nomads to experience this unique opportunity. The selection process is open to content creators such as YouTubers, Instagrammers, and TikTokers, but the emphasis is on individuals who possess exceptional storytelling skills.

During the one-month program, the nomads will be accommodated in Batu Putih Village in guest homes owned by locals. On the weekend a luxurious 4-star resort, on Lembeh Island mere steps away from the azure waters with pristine white sand beaches will be the playground of the visiting digital natives. The only prerequisites for the program participants are that they are 21 years or older and have respect for Indonesian culture.

To ensure that the right individuals are chosen for the program, every ambassador will complete a short application form after which the selected ambassadors will receive an exclusive invitation to partake in this groundbreaking initiative.

The application for the program can be accessed through the official website of the program. Due to strategic partnerships with various nomad communities in Bali, the program has already garnered over 500 applications, indicating the high level of interest among digital nomads from all corners of the globe.

Indonesia's first digital nomad village presents a golden opportunity for remote workers to embrace nature's bounty while fostering cultural exchange with the local community. With the promise of stunning landscapes, safe and comfortable living, and the chance to make a positive impact, this pilot program stands as an enticing invitation to the world's wandering digital workforce.
