📺 MAIN STORY

Daniella Pashuk A 5 year digital nomad recently shared her best money tips. We think they are helpful to any digital nomads, new or veteran. Here are the best tips she shared:

  • Choose your digital nomad lifestyle wisely: Consider whether you want to frequently change locations or adopt a slower approach by staying in one place for a longer duration. The latter can help with budgeting and provide stability.

  • Opt for a multi-currency debit card: To avoid excessive foreign transaction fees and banking issues while traveling, switch to a multi-currency debit card that allows you to add money and withdraw cash in different currencies.

  • Conduct thorough research: Before traveling to a new destination, research and understand the average costs of living, such as accommodation, food, and transportation. Unforeseen expenses, like high public transport costs, can impact your budget.

  • Stay aware of tax requirements: Keep track of tax regulations in different countries to ensure you don't inadvertently become a tax resident. Being informed about tax breaks and digital nomad visas can help you manage your tax obligations effectively.

  • Financial planning is crucial: As a digital nomad, financial stability requires careful planning. Be prepared for fluctuating income, varying expenses in different currencies, and the need to fund the lifestyle you desire. Budgeting and managing your finances well are key to success.

💡 COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT

The Art of the slow travel from member Federica Girola

In today's fast-paced world, where instant gratification and ticking off destinations seem to be the norm, there is a growing movement that encourages us to slow down and savor the beauty of travel.

This movement is called slow travel.

At its core, slow travel is a mindset that values quality over quantity. It invites us to go beyond the surface-level attractions and delve deeper into the heart of a place. Rather than hopping from one tourist hotspot to another, slow travel encourages us to linger, to wander through the streets, and to engage with the local community. By slowing down, we can truly appreciate the subtle nuances of a culture. We can observe the daily rhythms of life, taste the regional cuisine, learn about the customs and traditions in a particular place, and promote sustainable and responsible tourism, reducing our environmental impact and supporting local economies.

During my own journey of slow travel, I had the incredible opportunity to spend several months living in Tenerife (Canary Islands), immersing myself in the local culture and traditions. It was a transformative experience that allowed me to truly appreciate the island's beauty and way of life.

I had the privilege of attending traditional festivals, exploring hidden gems off the beaten path, and connecting with locals who generously shared their stories and traditions. From sampling delicious Canarian cuisine to listening to some live local music, every day was filled with enriching experiences that deepened my understanding of the local culture. Slow travel in Tenerife gave me the space and time to fully embrace the island's essence, and it remains a cherished memory that continues to inspire my love for exploring the world in a more intentional and meaningful way.

THE TRANSFORMATIVE BENEFITS OF SLOW TRAVEL

Slow travel enables us to delve deep into the local culture, traditions, and customs. By spending more time in a place, we can participate in community events, explore local markets, and even learn the language. Taking the time to connect with locals and fellow travelers fosters meaningful relationships and creates lasting memories.

Moreover, slow travel allows for personal reflection, self-discovery, and a break from the hustle and bustle of daily life. It can be an opportunity to disconnect from technology, immerse ourselves in nature, and engage in activities that promote mental and physical well-being.

This way of traveling also aligns with sustainable practices by reducing our carbon footprint and supporting local economies. By supporting local communities and businesses, it contributes to the preservation of cultural heritage and the protection of tradition.

HOW TO EMBRACE SLOW TRAVEL

Slow travel requires an open mind and a willingness to embrace spontaneity: allow yourself to deviate from strict itineraries and let serendipity guide your journey, leave room for unexpected encounters and detours that can lead to remarkable experiences. Instead of rushing to visit multiple destinations, choose a few key places and allocate ample time to explore and truly immerse yourself in each location. Quality experiences often trump quantity when it comes to slow travel. Seek opportunities to connect with locals by participating in cultural events, supporting local businesses, and engaging in community activities. Embrace the chance to learn from and contribute to the places you visit.
