Albania Approves New Law to Digital Nomads: Work Legally & Tax-Free
Albania wants you! 🫵🏾 Yes we now have yet another country in Europe swinging their arms wide open to welcome you. But will people go in for the hug? Here’s what we know about the new program thus far.
The Parliamentary Commission for Economy and Finance in Albania has made changes to the law "On the Support and Development of Startups" to make it easier for digital nomads to live and work in the country.
The new changes provide a secure and legal framework for remote workers in Albania.
Digital workers will not be considered tax residents for one year and will be exempt from taxes during that period.
However, digital nomads are still required to obtain a permit under the law "On foreigners" and its implementing sub-legal acts.
The Digital Nomad Visa allows international digital nomads, self-employed individuals, students, and researchers to legally reside and work in Albania for companies or clients outside the country.
The program aims to support Albania's economic growth, which has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic
💡 COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT
Cyprus, from the captivating words of member Eva Ieridou
They say that you can't truly appreciate what you have until it's gone. Well, in my case, I had to leave my home country for 10 years to finally realize its true value.
Have you ever felt that your country falls short of your expectations or fails to provide the conditions necessary for living life on your own terms?
After spending so much time abroad, the desire to wander is still very much there.
However, I have also come to see my home, Cyprus, as an exceptional destination for free-spirited individuals like myself. It has become a place where I long to spend at least a few months every year.
In recent years, I have been returning home more frequently, and with each visit, I establish a deeper connection. Driving from east to west takes just around three hours, allowing me to explore the island's diverse landscapes even for day trips.
I have been so lucky to swim in crystal-clear beaches, hike through forests and gorges, and build friendships through local events.
Alongside my family, I have taken pleasure in introducing them to the wonders of Cypriot cuisine, culture, and history.
While Cyprus shares many similarities with Greece (we even have the same national anthem), its unique character is shaped by the influence of various civilizations that have passed through its lands, including the Romans, Ottomans, French, Arabs, and British.
Somehow, these influences blend together seamlessly, creating a country with a distinct charm that can be felt in the everyday hospitality, sense of community, and acts of kindness.
Cyprus already offers a multitude of networking opportunities, events, and meetups for connection, community, and collaboration; organized by local and international communities, coworking spaces, and individuals through social media platforms.
Soon, NomadCyprus will further enhance the island's appeal, making it an ideal destination for solo nomads, couples, and families.
On a practical note, Cyprus provides a favorable tax regime with competitive corporate tax rates and incentives for entrepreneurs, which has attracted many well-known companies to establish their base here.
The Digital Nomad Visa was recently introduced, allowing you, if eligible, to live and work in Cyprus for up to one year, with the option to extend it for an additional two years, for you and your family.
All in all, Cyprus has recaptured my heart as a place where I can truly embrace a free-spirited lifestyle.
Its stunning landscapes, rich history, welcoming communities, and favorable business environment and initiatives make it an ideal choice for digital nomads and remote workers seeking a place to call home, even if just for a short time.
