Croatia Digital Nomad Visa Faces Troubles

Croatia has slowly grown to be among the largest hubs in the world for digital nomads and remote workers. However, the majority of these nomads are not attempting to stay for long in the country after it overrules its laws.

Typical digital nomad lifestyle🔥

Here is what we know about the situation in Croatia

  • A Nomad List survey demonstrated that Croatia's Digital Nomad Visa is one of the most well-known schemes worldwide, drawing many internationals.

  • Thousands of digital nomads have made Croatia their home, but the majority of them may stay longer than is legally allowed in this Balkan country.

  • If a digital nomad wishes to stay in Croatia for more than a year, they must leave the country for a minimum of six months in order to be eligible to reapply for a visa. Croatia has some of the strictest regulations regarding visas.

  • The visa was introduced on Jan 1st, 2021, and is only valid for a limited duration after which extension becomes problematic.

  • Is this another example of a lapse of foresight in digital nomad programs?

The Importance of Meditation For Digital Nomads

Like all jobs, remote works come with various challenges that may consume the mental state of a digital nomad. Moreover, most high-paying digital nomad jobs require workers to be in their best mental state. For this reason, digital nomads should make meditation part of their daily routine.

Meditation gives an individual a sense of internal peace. This heavily benefits your overall physical health conditions as well as your mental health. Meditation is a handy tool used to relax the body, mind, and spirit during stressful personal or professional situations.

Here is a guide for you if you want to start meditating

  1. Find a calm and comfortable place with no noise.

  2. Grab a seat or sit in the meditation pose (make sure you are comfortable regardless of how you pose)

  3. Set a timer with an alarm to notify you when your time ends.

  4. Close your eyes and tilt your head slightly upwards.

  5. Breathe deeply and slowly to ensure your organs are getting enough oxygen.

  6. Stay afloat on all thoughts. Chase away any un-commanded brain activity and focus on your skin sensitivity on various body parts.

  7. Start with your head, then your chest, and finally your legs.

  8. Continue to practice!

Here is a detailed guide for you:

Nomad(s) of The Week

Today’s Nomads of the week are Andrea Mammoliti and Serena Chironna, the co-founders of KINO, a digital nomad company based in Italy.

KINO Italy co-founders

After years of living abroad, we decided to contribute to make off-the-beaten-path destinations in Italy more attractive for Remote Workers and Digital Nomads.

We felt that there was a lack of offers for digital nomads and remote workers in Italy, especially in rural villages.

For us, a strong local community is the main focus for even considering a destination for our Community. In 2022, we launched 2 pilot projects, starting from the village of Tursi (region of Basilicata) in June, followed by a second one last October, in Santa Fiora, Tuscany.

During our stay, the Community of Remote Workers and Digital Nomads can work efficiently while living in an authentic Italy, different from the typical tourist destinations and definitely fulfilling.

Kino’s Values (we kind of love them)

  • Making hidden destinations in Italy accessible to remote workers.

  • Creating strategic LOCAL partnerships.

  • Curating the entire experience and providing on-site Italian community management.

  • Building bridges with locals.

  • Creating a positive impact on the community that welcomes us.

🏖️ Workations will become the hottest employee benefit

Written by: Nadia Harris, Founding Member @Remote-First Institute

  • If a company offers workations, nearly 70% of US employees are less likely to quit. This is the reason why a large number of businesses consider implementing short-term working abroad policies.

  • According to recent statistics, 3 out of 5 employees are planning to work from another country. This clearly proves that remote work is no longer limited to working from home. The workation concept allows workers to embrace a digital nomad lifestyle for a few weeks or months. Gone will be the days of waiting all year for the next summer vacation to be able to work from an exotic destination.

  • Workations increase the level of employee-well being and consequently decrease burnout. It’s not just about traveling but being able to spend more time with families living abroad or working from a sunny destination when local weather gets bad.

  • Since the digital era is truly on the rise, the number of workers willing to change their professions keeps increasing. Remote side hustles are an amazing opportunity to build their personal, expert brand from scratch.
