The Most Livable Cities of 2023

After a pandemic-induced downturn, global cities are experiencing a resurgence in quality of life, reaching a 15-year peak, according to the Economist Intelligence Unit's Global Liveability Index. Factors such as healthcare and education improvements in Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, along with the easing of pandemic restrictions, have contributed to the rise. While civil unrest and cost-of-living concerns have impacted stability scores, cultural events and attractions are rebounding, enhancing culture and environment ratings.

Vienna, Austria, remains at the index's summit with exceptional scores in stability, healthcare, education, and infrastructure. Melbourne and Sydney reclaimed their positions in the top 10, touting vibrant arts scenes and navigable environments. Vancouver, Canada, lauded for its natural beauty, supportive business climate, and accessible transit, also featured in the top 10. Osaka, Japan, renowned for affordability and safety, and Auckland, New Zealand, appreciated for their natural beauty and cultural vibrancy, rounded out the list. These cities' livability reflects diverse qualities that resonate with their residents. Read full article.

Bali is finally launching it’s Golden Visa (or are they?)

Indonesia is revamping immigration policies to lure foreign investment and expertise, particularly in Bali, a hotspot for entrepreneurs and digital nomads. A "golden visa" scheme, set to roll out by year-end, will waive visas for foreigners making substantial investments. Companies eyeing the visa may need a $50 million investment, while individuals might need $350,000 in government bonds. Originally planned for June 2023, the launch was delayed due to regulatory tweaks. The visa aims to attract talent in technology, health, and research fields. It offers 5-10 years' validity, property ownership rights, and the potential for a fast-track citizenship application. Read full article.

🚙 Trip Report from Agaete, Gran Canaria

Chris Cerra shares his recent nomading experience in Gran Canaria.

Time spent: 1 Week in July 2023

Location: Puerto de las Nieves

Accommodation: El Cabo Coliving

Chris, how was the internet and coworking?

El Cabo has insanely good wifi (everywhere from the rooftop to the basement!

• Co-working is included at Coworking Agaete (2min walk from coliving) 🧡

How was it communicating with locals?

Well of course this is an island of Spain so knowing Spanish helps, but it’s the canary islands, so there's plenty of English spoken.

How about the people in the coworking space?

The coliving was very international, Brazilians, Spaniards, Americans, Germans, British, French... a very mixed bag.

Ok, let’s talk about the major keys..Weather

Mornings are great because the sun is on the rooftop at El Cabo, but not directly. Instead, the light hits the Faneque Cliffs (Highest sea cliff in Europe & 7th highest worldwide).

This makes the roof top an AMAZING space to work in the mornings if you're an early bird.

Weather in the afternoons was good temp, just very windy.

Ok so now tell us, what are some fun activities to do?

Walk, hike, swim! Always something to do! The El Cabo coliving was super sociable & repeople have other locations in Las Palmas, so you can almost guarantee there'll be something happening.

Best things about Agaete?

  • The natural pools for swimming on a hot afternoon

  • The sports centre - €2 per day access!

  • The coliving communal areas - bright, spacious, CLEAN, and stocked.

  • NomadCity Gran Canaria 2023

Worst things?

I was only there for a week, and mainly stayed in Puerto de las Nieves, but Agaete itself is much bigger. The self-contained feeling of Peurto de las Nieves gave me little reason to venture into the town center, but I should have!

I was in town for Nomad City Fest 2023 - speaking on The Future of Nomad Accommodation - and while I was there, the Repeople Coliving team gave me a private tour of their coliving & cohousing spaces.

✅ Finish this sentence for our viewers “Go here if…”

  • You like island life and small town living

  • You like easy access to (decent!) coworking space

  • You like there being plenty of organized weekly events (hello morning rooftop yoga!)

❌ Finish this sentence for our viewers “Avoid here if…”

  • You prefer bigger towns and cities

  • You don't like to do outdoor/nature-based activities in your downtime

  • You don't want to meet other nomads

Final question, if you were to pick just ONE favorite thing, what would that be?

My favourite thing about Agaete was the morning walk to the natural pools... 🏊‍♀️

Gracias, Chris!
