I Built An AI Digital Nomad with ChatGPT

So… I built an AI twin of myself 👀

You’ve probably seen the viral story of Caryn AI a virtual girlfriend that makes 70k per week.

If not you should read about it because it just shows how powerful AI technology is getting and the openness of people to use it.

When I saw this story it immediately got me thinking.

What if I created an AI Digital Nomad, a twin version of myself? 😂

This “AI Twin” would consume all my past blogs, podcasts, and Youtube videos and be able to have an engaging conversation like a friend.

It would remember all my nomad hacks and travel tips about places I’ve lived and work remotely from. It would even teach you the best side hustles I use to make money online.

So I spent weeks researching what it would take. Without getting into too serious of technicalities, I want to share with you how I did it.

HOW DOES IT WORK

I used the best tool on the market, a conversational AI called ChatGPT as my baseline of responses but then I uploaded hundreds of transcripts and PDFs to a separate server so that questions related to the digital nomad movement, my knowledge of certain countries and experiences could be added to my responses, and my AI “personality.”

I used an API from an AI voice synthesizer called Eleven Labs. You basically upload a 30-minute mp3 of you speaking and within seconds it can imitate your exact voice! Crazy right?

Now there’s a lot more technical skill needed to connect everything, APIs and coding, etc. Cost me a decent amount of time and money to do this so I would love for you to check it out and try it.

The result was OLU AI, a fully functional business advisor and travel assistant all in one. We are currently in Beta so you can try it here.

💡 COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT

Between Illusion and Ultimate Freedom

written by Simon Ginglseder

My experience so far has been positive, but the way I have traveled in the last few years has changed over time. In the beginning, I was overwhelmed by the possibility of going everywhere. A friend also told me that he sometimes feels like a refugee when he has to move, for example, because of visa reasons.

I faced many of my fears and learned to not only embrace but also enjoy the uncertainty.

Whether I will live like this forever, I don't know. I could imagine creating a project that offers a home away from home - but more calm and with a different price structure. As a base to recover energy before traveling again. For me, that is one of the downsides - also related to minimalism and just renting things. Companies always try to maximize profits. Being always and completely exposed to this dynamic is tiring, and it is also one of the reasons why people still prefer to own things. Owning things gives you stability, and you can calculate. Sometimes, the price jumps are crazy.

As I sit here writing, I am grateful that I am finally the creator and master of my own life. I hope you feel the same about your decision. I would be happy to connect with other digital nomads - the social component is one of the most difficult ones. Moving around in an area where a language is spoken which I still do not understand doesn't help. Currently, I am exploring different locations to see where I can create a project like the one mentioned above.

Mainly, I travel around Spain, Portugal, and Italy, but I also have some plans for Latin America.

If you are struggling with the challenges, I am also happy to talk. As a psychological advisor and agile coach who went through similar processes, I might be able to give you some ideas or just listen🙂
